Build 3. Rust Protection
I'd read in a few blogs about the "grot" trap, which until I received the car I had no idea what it was relating to. the moment you look under the bonnet, you can instantly see why people have chosen to add more protection.
So with that in mind, I did the same at this point. I actually bought spray on version of Dinitrol 3125 and decided to brush it on, no one will see it where it is, and I didn't really want to make a mess with it! I masking taped the area (the green tape in the photo below) to avoid any unwanted spills and slapped on a coat. I'll be doing two coats.
After removing the cardboard from the sides, you can actually see the brown Dinitrol through the holes (really only the big exhaust one) So I have also decided to put a layer of Hammerrite Satin Black on top of all this to tidy it all up (and it looks nicer all over when looking inside the bonnet. At this point I also removed the wooden boot plank, which is also exposed to the elements. I have coated this with Zinnser 123 primer and will then whack a layer of Hammerrite on top of this (mainly because now I have the paint, I may as well use it!)
